freecat15: (Spuffy Porch)
I said I would post everything I've written on my LJ bit by bit, so here is the next piece.
This was my very first entry anywhere on LJ, and I was so damn nervous... Since almost everyone on my flist also reads over on Fag Ends, you'll probably all know it already anyway, but I really want to have it all in one place (I had already forgotten about this one...).

Prompt: Synchronised Moves
Setting: BtVS early s6/ around 'All the Way'
Rating: PG 15
Length: 100 words

Kick.

He kicks, too, the same moment as she does; she sees it from the corner of her eye.

Her demon approaches her with a roar. So does Spike’s, but each deals them several blows, followed by a side kick, moving toward each other, back to back.

They exchange a glance, and then their demons; with a spin kick they introduce themselves to their new opponent. Then they both whirl once more, using the momentum to sever their demon’s heads, Buffy with her sword, Spike with the ax.

They are completely in sync, she thinks, startled.

Dancing on thin ice.

I don't keep up with almost any group on LJ anymore, just checking some of my friends, so I hadn't read this one before. This is such a central part of their relationship: the warrior part. The equal footing back to back understanding between them. The violent, powerful, synchronised dance.

You know what is kind of funny? We only rarely saw them fight togehter in the show, and never (I think) explicitly these two. It's mostly something we asume - their deep understanding of each other showing in something they have in common and that is indeed a central part in both of them, their fighting skills. But it is so fitting to picture them like that, isn't it? So much so that it instantly came to my mind when I read the prompt at Fag Ends that originally belonged to the week's theme 'ice-skating' :)

We didn't see them fight together, on the same side, many times - but on the other hand, the times Buffy emphasizes his value to her as a warrior, she really puts weight behind her words.

Oh, I really don't disagree. It's obvious how much Buffy always valued Spike's fighting skills.

Oh, I remember that one! I enjoyed reading it again. I do love how well synchronized Buffy and Spike have always been, even back when they were still enemies.

I'm really happy that you took the time to read again and still like it :), but even commenting again - wow, thank you!
Ooops, I forgot to say - the fight with Angel and Spike in Lover's Walk has always been a highlight for me for exact that reason (plus - snarky Spangel :D)
